At Two Gates we have a dedicated Nurture room which offers a comfortable and homely environment for children to develop skills for learning through a variety of activities. Children have the opportunity to attend 2 sessions each week in small groups to join in a carefully planned curriculum which encourages them to participate and succeed in small steps.
We focus especially on the 5 skills of listening, looking, speaking, concentrating and thinking.
Through circle time, games, stories, cooking and other activities the children learn that they are valued and can value others. They learn to recognise their feelings, and how to manage them in school, and how to be part of a larger group.
Each term parents are invited to spend some time in the nurture room with us, sharing in an activity and celebrating progress. Progress is recorded using the Boxall profile, and success shared with the children in personalised books containing photographs and copies of achievements.
Chat and Play
3 mornings each week between 8.45 and 9.30am children who are in transition from the Den to class, or who need some additional emotional support in school, are invited to attend our chat and play sessions. These sessions allow children a space to share concerns, or to work through specific issues to enable them to feel comfortable about themselves in school. We use drawing, lego, games and conversation in play to provide a safe space for children to express their needs and to receive the support they seek.
